KARNATAKA REGIONAL ENGINEERING COLLEGE at SURATHKAL on the west coast of Karnataka was set up as a joint venture between Government of India and Government of Karnataka during August, 1960 to impart quality technical education to students from all over India. During this long period more than fifteen thousand engineers have completed successfully their studies and serving in India and abroad. During 2004 KREC was renamed as NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY KARNATAKA and brought under control of Government of India and considered as national institute.

Today the institute is globally recognised as one of the centres of academic excellence, and is reputed for

For the Institute, the true worth of its activities, in the long run, is the success of its alumni. To assist in strengthening the link with alumni, Alumni Association was formed by like minded alumni of NITK to have continued association with NITK and to have interaction among themselves in addition to assist present student community for their development. NITK Alumni Association has its headquarters at NITK campus and Chapters in different cities in India and abroad.

Many Alumni of NITK who have had a good learning, research and social experience during their KREC/NITK years are, unsure how to continue their pleasant association with the Institute. The NITK Alumni Association is one forum for doing so.

The Alumni Office offers alumni the chance to keep up with the happenings at NITK and interact in more than one way, such as :
